The Elgin Theatre of Toronto, Canada is the last surviving Edwardian stacked theater in the world. Along with its former twin sister, the Winter Garden Theatre, these venues were the last survivors of their kind. They were constructed in 1913 and were originally used for vaudeville and silent motion pictures. Now the Elgin Theatre has been restored to its former glory and once again serves Toronto through its theatrical performances. Don't miss a date on the Elgin Theatre schedule. The Winter Garden Theatre was forced to close its doors in 1928 after the decline of vaudeville. By the sixtes, the Elgin Theatre was reduced to showing B movies until 1981 when it was purchased by the Ontario Heritage Foundation. It was restored and reopened in 1989 to its full glory! In 1991, the Elgin Theatre was retrofitted with state of the art sound system only adding the majesty of the venue. For the past two decades, the Elgin Theatre has been Toronto's favorite venue for live theatrical performances.
