      The Keystones of Healthcare Simulation

SIM-one’s Keystones of Healthcare Simulation is for learners who are interested in a more immersive experience in healthcare simulation than our individual courses alone. Click HERE to read the Keystones brochure.

      Program Objectives:

After participating in the Keystones of Healthcare Simulation Certificate Program, participants should be able to:

      • Describe several simulation methods for teaching in a variety of contexts
      • Describe some of the theoretical bases for simulation
      • Demonstrate newly acquired knowledge, skills and attitude in the use of simulation
      • Demonstrate enhanced facilitation skills for the conducting of simulations
      • Acquire a positive attitude towards implementing and initiating change and incorporation of interactive and experiential simulation techniques into their teaching
      • Identify the ways in which simulation can be used for academic scholarship
      • Describe a strategy for implementation of their own career development plan

      Program Criteria:

Candidates are expected to participate in three of the four core courses offered from SIM-one (i.e., Essentials of Simulation, Frame of Simulation, Simulation Centre Wizardry and E3: Exploring E-Simulation and E-Blended Learning). This can occur over two academic years. Candidates must also develop one simulation scenario for piloting, submit reflection papers and participate in the SIM-one Simulation Rounds to present on their activities. In addition, candidates will be given a reflection journal for helping document their development in the field.

      SIM-one Simulation Rounds:

All certificate participants will have to present at the Rounds on their scholarly projects as part of the certificate requirements. The Rounds allow presentations on research, however, they have been expanded to allow different forms of academic and industry presentations; i.e., education, teaching, creative professional activities, program surveys, the latest technology developed in the field, etc.

      Mentorship:

As part of developing their simulation project, candidates will be matched up with a mentor in the field. In addition, candidates will also be given the opportunity to be adjunct faculty for SIM-one courses in which to develop becoming a trainer in the field. These candidates can work with the faculty for these courses to deliver portions of training. Candidates will also be invited to special educational activities for new simulationists.
